Cassete Pirata made their debut with the release of their eponymous EP in 2017 and the year ended with it as the second highest-rated track on Antena 3’s top. They are currently in the final stages of producing their album and they have already unveiled one of the songs with the video for “Outro Final Qualquer”. Led by João Firmino (also known as Pir), vocalist and composer of most of the songs, Cassete Pirata has João Pinheiro (Diabo na Cruz, Rural) on the drums, António Quintino (Samuel Úria) on the bass, the unique duo of singers and keyboard players Margarida Campelo and Joana Espadinha and music producer Luís Nunes (aka Benjamim). Most of them came from Amsterdam and Lisbon’s jazz schools. Cassete Pirata brings us rock songs directly from our youth, songs that they had repressed during their time studying jazz harmonies… The lyricism of the melodies and the psychedelic sound of the keyboards create a sonority that could had been born from a mix of Supertramp and Melody’s Echo Chamber with Coltrane and Milton Nascimento… With their own and unique rock sound, Cassete Pirata are seen as one of the most promising bands in Portuguese music.
