Although she has been writing songs in her head since she was six and on the guitar since she was 12, the truth is that it took some time for Nilüfer Yanya to pluck up the courage and show all of her talent to the world. Fortunately, her shyness has disappeared and today she is one of indie music’s biggest promises. Her music knows how to mingle jazz and soul like few others, never losing her distinctive pop appeal. Daughter of artists, she grew up listening to Turkish music, performed by her father and classical music performed by her mother and she started to be noticed thanks to a séries of songs she dropped on SoundCloud. It wasn’t long before she signed for New York label ATO, after having released three EPs through the London label Blue Flowers. She is ready to release her debut album, “Miss Universe”, which is undoubtedly her most ambitious step yet. It’s a concept album about anxiety, paranoia and other psycological disorders. Modern life’s fast pace is scrutinized in a kind of stream of consciousness that confirms the young British girl’s keen artistic sensibility. Influenced by such diferente names as Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone or The Pixies, Nilüfer manages to work with all of these references for what she seeks to do. Songs like “Heavyweight Champion of the Year” or “In Your Head” will leave you listening to it in loop until her concert in Super Bock in Stock.
